Earthquake
Engineering Competition
In November, 2015, EERI McMaster joined forces with a student group from the Bachelor of Engineering Technology class to organize and host an earthquake engineering competition for local high school students. Having had six groups attend in its inaugural year, the students were challenged to plan and construct a building out of K'Nex and other materials to survive two earthquakes. The buildings were tested on a small shake table and instrumented using smartphone technology and in-house recording software in Matlab to monitor their buildings performance. The 2017-2018 3rd annual competition, held on October 13th, 2017 was a huge success, with a fierce but friendly competition amongst the competing students. Photos and videos from both the 2nd and 3rd annual competition are posted below.

The McMaster Earthquake Engineering Competition (MEEC) will continue to be held annually through McMaster's civil engineering department and EERI McMaster. Stay tuned for the date of the MEEC in the upcoming school year.
