UNDERGRADUATE SEISMIC DESIGN TEAM
The EERI Student Leadership Council (SLC) hosts the Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition in conjunction with the EERI Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting and Competition are held in a different US state each year.
The team is comprised of all levels of undergraduate students, including specialty programs and internship-experienced students, interested in Earthquake Engineering.

In the fall semester, the Undergraduate Seismic Design Team constructs a preliminary design report of their building design, following the requirements outlined by the SLC for the upcoming year's competition. In the beginning of November, this preliminary design report is submitted to the SLC for evaluation. Due to the growing popularity of the competition, the SLC awards a limited number of competition invitations to universities based on the rankings from the preliminary design reports. Universities are notified of their invitation in early December. Once invited, the seismic design team then constructs their designed building out of Balsa wood. The team has the winter semester to complete the building. and then attends the the competition at the EERI Annual Meeting that is generally held between the beginning of March and the start of April.

The Undergraduate Seismic Design Team welcomes non-financial sponsors to the team as well. Engagement may involve mentoring or presenting on topics related to the project, including operations management, optimization of design variables, or structural and architectural design software. We believe this adds significant value for you as a sponsor, and most importantly, adds value to the undergraduate team members.
